Great poem...I felt it. I knew Shaky myself and his passing was saddening and wasteful and almost sinnful condidering the things the average resident of Santa Barbara would like to believe about themselves...what a bunch of heartless, self-interested and deluded clods. Anyway, this poem is as good a eulogy as a person could wish for, nicely done.

Sorry for the confusion, the author, myself, is named and pictured above the poem: Wayne Myers. By the way, thank you for commenting, you are both kind and perceptive and I welcome you to read on if you like, here and at my blogsite, or whatever you call it...at the Independent.

Very nice poem, one of the best I've read in a long while. I got the homeless/Jesus allusions, along with the Pisces/Aquarius/astronomy connections. The author's name, please?

I believe a hlmoeess outreach should connect with people, addressing their needs individually. It would be better to help ONE person successfully take back their life, rather than to feed a whole herd of people a few times then dump them out on the street as statistics. Currently there seems to be no system in place for any outreach to do more than apply a few band-aids. I believe this is due to lack of effective appropriation and distribution of funds. I believe that huge organizations that label and slot people into categories are doing a major disservice to the hlmoeess and needy population. Imagine how much more effective help could be provided by smaller organizations, properly funded, that see human beings beneath the need. Funding is vital to those with a heart for working with individuals, teaching them each how to recover from their dire situations and live more independently.
